While wholesale energy prices have started to settle, this new forecast is a big concern for small business owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you run a small business, understanding these upcoming changes is vital for your long-term budgeting. Here\u2019s what you need to know about the forecast and how it might impact your bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-are-prices-increasing\">Why are prices increasing?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has released a five-year forecast for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edfenergy.com\/wholesale-market-services\/blog-increased-supplier-network-costs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Transmission Network Use of System (TNUoS) charges<\/a>. These are the costs energy suppliers pay to transport electricity from power stations through high-voltage lines to local distribution networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To maintain and upgrade the grid \u2013 especially to accommodate renewable energy sources like wind farms in Scotland and the North \u2013 significant investment is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consequently, the cost of using this system is going up. The forecast suggests that TNUoS charges for suppliers and consumers will approximately double from their current levels \u2013 adding around five per cent to electricity bills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">for domestic households, this could mean an increase from \u00a351 to \u00a393 annually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">for businesses, higher standing charges are expected<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because network charges are typically recovered on a &#8216;pence per site per day&#8217; basis, suppliers add them to daily standing charges rather than unit rates.
