You just need your car registration number to find out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Typically, vehicles that don\u2019t meet the emissions standards and have to pay the ULEZ charge are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">petrol cars and vans that don\u2019t meet Euro 4 standards (typically vehicles registered before 2006)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">diesel cars and vans that don\u2019t meet Euro 6 standards (typically vehicles registered before 2015)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">motorbikes that don\u2019t meet Euro 3 standards (sold before July 2007)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Electric vehicles (EVs) are exempt from the charge. Check other <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/low-emission-zone\/exemptions-and-discounts\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">exemptions and grace periods<\/a> with TFL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How much is the ULEZ charge?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re driving in the area and your vehicle doesn\u2019t meet specific emissions and safety standards (typically older vehicles) then you have to <strong>pay \u00a312.50 a day<\/strong>. You don\u2019t have to pay if your car is parked in the zone on days you\u2019re not driving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s a<strong> penalty charge of \u00a3180<\/strong> if you fail to pay by midnight on the third day following the journey, although this is reduced to \u00a390 if you pay within 14 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can use <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/check-your-vehicle\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">TFL\u2019s congestion charge tool <\/a>to check if the charges apply to your business vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to pay ULEZ<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can pay the charge in a number of ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/pay-to-drive-in-london\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">pay online<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/auto-pay\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">set up Auto Pay<\/a> \u2013 this gives you the option to register up to five vehicles if your business regularly uses multiple vehicles, and you\u2019ll be charged automatically so you won\u2019t have to worry about forgetting to pay the charges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">TFL app \u2013 using the app you can set up to auto-pay, make payments, and view your balance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">by phone \u2013 call 0343 222 2222 to pay the charge over the phone<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Claim tax relief on ULEZ charges<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small businesses driving in the capital will be able to claim tax relief on the daily ULEZ charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HMRC confirmed the charge will be classed as an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplybusiness.co.uk\/knowledge\/self-assessment\/self-employed-expenses\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1511\" >allowable business expense.<\/a> This means the self-employed can deduct the amount from their taxable profits and reduce the amount of tax they need to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The relief only applies to journeys made for business purposes \u2013 and doesn\u2019t include commuting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Don\u2019t forget about the London congestion charge<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019ll need to pay a congestion charge if you drive at certain times in central London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Congestion charge times apply between 7am and 6pm during the week (Monday to Friday) and between 12pm and 6pm on weekends and bank holidays. Charges don\u2019t apply between Christmas Day and the New Year\u2019s Day bank holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/congestion-charge\/congestion-charge-zone?intcmp=2055\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">congestion charge map <\/a>on TFL\u2019s website to see if charges apply. You\u2019ll know if you\u2019re in a congestion charge zone as there are signs showing a white \u2018C\u2019 in a red circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It <strong>costs \u00a315 a day<\/strong> and can be paid for the same way as the ULEZ charge. TFL has more information on <a href=\"https:\/\/tfl.gov.uk\/modes\/driving\/pay-to-drive-in-london\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">paying to drive in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EVs are eligible for a 25 per cent discount, reducing the fee to \u00a313.50 a day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Clean air zone cities across the UK<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There aren\u2019t any other ULEZ cities beyond London, but there are other cities with low emission zones in the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the main cities in the UK where clean air zones apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/beta.bathnes.gov.uk\/bath-clean-air-zone\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bath<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.gov.uk\/info\/20076\/pollution\/1763\/a_clean_air_zone_for_birmingham\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Birmingham<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradford.gov.uk\/breathe-better-bradford\/check-if-you-need-to-pay\/check-if-you-need-to-pay\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bradford<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.gov.uk\/streets-travel\/bristol-caz\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bristol<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breathe-cleanair.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Newcastle and Gateshead<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxford.gov.uk\/zez\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Oxford<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cleanerairportsmouth.co.uk\/clean-air-zone-caz\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Portsmouth<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.gov.uk\/campaigns\/clean-air-zone-sheffield\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sheffield<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">National exemptions apply if you have an eco-friendly vehicle that meets the low emissions standards.
