{"id":1132,"date":"2022-05-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.simplybusiness.co.uk\/knowledge\/articles\/van-theft-hotspots-uk\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T13:16:37","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T13:16:37","slug":"van-theft-hotspots-uk","status":"publish","type":"knowledge","link":"https:\/\/www.simplybusiness.co.uk\/knowledge\/vehicles\/van-theft-hotspots-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Where are the van theft \u2018hotspots\u2019 in the UK?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Van theft has more than doubled for some UK regions over the last two years, according to a new study from IronmongeryDirect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trades supplier sent Freedom of Information requests to police forces in the UK to find out how many vans were stolen in 2020 and 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"\/knowledge\/vehicles\/electric-cars-and-vans-for-business\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1211\" ><strong>Should you get an electric car or van for your business? <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"\/knowledge\/vehicles\/how-to-buy-a-van-self-employed\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1420\" ><strong>Can I claim for a van on my tax return? <\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"\/knowledge\/trades\/tool-theft-in-2025-tougher-sentences-coming-soon\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1031\" ><strong>Three tool theft updates for tradespeople<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><a href=\"\/business-insurance\/faq\/what-type-of-business-insurance-do-i-need\/\"><strong>What type of business insurance do I need?<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read on to find out some of the worst hit areas for van theft, as well as tips for preventing it in the first place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cambridgeshire-and-cumbria-see-rising-cases\">Cambridgeshire and Cumbria see rising cases <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of trade vehicles stolen in Cambridgeshire rose from 68 in 2020 to 138 in 2021 \u2013 that\u2019s a 103 per cent increase year-on-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cumbria Constabulary also saw a rise in this crime, reporting an increase from 15 vans to 30 vans over the two-year period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-london-is-the-worst-hit-area\">London is the worst hit area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"nba-body-001\">\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps unsurprisingly, London has seen the most vans stolen compared to other UK regions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Metropolitan Police Service say they saw a total of 6,839 van theft incidents in 2020 and 2021.
