To get started, open Facebook, sign into your account and follow these seven steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Open Marketplace<\/strong> \u2013 on desktop find Marketplace in the main menu and go to \u2018create new listing\u2019. On the mobile app, hit the little Marketplace logo at the bottom of the homescreen (it looks like a shopfront). You\u2019ll be asked \u2018What are you listing?\u2019 and you need to select a category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Choose a \u2018listing type\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 this will be either: Item for sale, Vehicle for sale, Property for sale or rent, Job opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Select photos<\/strong> \u2013 if you\u2019re on the mobile app, you\u2019ll be able to select from your gallery or tap the camera icon to take a photo, edit it and then continue with your listing. On desktop, just upload your photo from your computer.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Add information about your product<\/strong> \u2013 this includes name, description, category, price, and tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5. Confirm your location<\/strong> \u2013 this is so that your ad appears on Facebook Marketplace for people in your area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6. Choose whether to share the listing<\/strong> \u2013 you can post it on your profile or list your product in a group you\u2019re already a member of \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fbmarketplace\/about\/?ref=page_internal\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Marketplace Community<\/a> page is a good one to try. There\u2019s also a tick-box option where you can hide your posting from friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>7. Publish your listing<\/strong> \u2013 on the app you\u2019ll tap \u2018Post\u2019 and your listing will be live, on desktop you\u2019ll click \u2018Publish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can edit your listings in \u2018Your listings\u2019 and if you want to reach more potential buyers, you can pay to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/business\/help\/304288543633513?id=150605362430228\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">turn your listing into an ad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep an eye on your notifications for messages, and once you\u2019ve reached an agreement you\u2019ll need to arrange collection and payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"paymentoptions\">Payment options<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With no in-built payment option, cash is the most secure option here. You could use an online payment service like <a href=\"https:\/\/pay.facebook.com\/gb\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Pay<\/a> or <a href=\"\/knowledge\/banking\/do-i-need-a-paypal-business-account-for-my-small-business\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1034\" >PayPal<\/a>, although this leaves you open to scams. One to watch out for is a fake payment email from your supposed buyer, so always check you\u2019ve actually received the money in your account before sending the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"facebookmarketplacerules\">Facebook Marketplace rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your listing must comply with Facebook\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/policies_center\/commerce\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Commerce policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Facebook Marketplace rules include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">never listing prohibited products (such as adult products or services, alcohol, animals, digital media and electronic devices, events, vouchers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">your product must be a product (not a service, news posting, or joke)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\">your listing must not infringe <a href=\"\/knowledge\/business-structure\/what-is-intellectual-property\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"976\" >intellectual property rights<\/a> of a third-party (e.g. copyright)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Facebook Marketplace also introduced additional advice for buyers and sellers during coronavirus. This includes making sure you\u2019re following local health and safety guidelines, organising items to be delivered, and cleaning items before you sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"servicescantbelistedonmarketplace\">Services can\u2019t be listed on Marketplace<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can no longer list services on Marketplace. Whereas previously <a href=\"\/knowledge\/starting-out\/how-to-start-a-cleaning-business-in-the-uk\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1446\" >cleaning businesses<\/a>, <a href=\"\/knowledge\/starting-out\/how-to-start-a-window-cleaning-business\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1079\" >window cleaners<\/a>, plumbers, and <a href=\"\/knowledge\/starting-out\/how-to-start-a-gardening-business\/\" data-type=\"knowledge\" data-id=\"1266\" >gardeners<\/a> could all list on Marketplace, they now have to be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/policies_center\/commerce\/services\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">approved service<\/a> and use Facebook Shops instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"facebookmarketplaceprosandcons\">Facebook Marketplace \u2013 pros and cons<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Make sure you\u2019re aware of some of the benefits and Facebook Marketplace problems before you get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pros\">Pros<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>no Facebook Marketplace fees for buyers and sellers<\/strong> \u2013 you can add as many listings as you like without having to pay a penny<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>greater level of trust between buyer and seller<\/strong> \u2013 you can check out their Facebook profile, send messages, and understand a bit about the person you\u2019re dealing with<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>convenient and prominent<\/strong> \u2013 with billions of users engaging with Facebook on a daily basis, Marketplace is probably the king of spontaneous shopping<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"wp-block-list-item\"><strong>easy to use<\/strong> \u2013 something you can\u2019t say for all listing sites.
